PhycoDigest extracts, now formulated with Omega-3 into SeaFibre-3. This product is in popular demand and we are now making monthly production runs and will keep you updated through our newsletter as batches are released. We are working hard at scaling production to get this to everyone who is waiting. Please subscribe to our newsletter at the bottom of this page to stay updated on when it is available again.
PhycoDigest extracts were developed and tested in two clinical trials to determine the effects on the gut flora and metabolic disorders. PhycoDigest SeaFibre-3TM is made from our proprietary seaweed extraction process for specific components of seaweeds that are known to be potentially beneficial in the gut processes that interact with inflammation. This includes unique, complex, semi-soluble gel-fibre molecules (glycans) and phenolic compounds. These types of molecules have been shown to have direct anti-inflammatory activity and in recent clinical studies we measured reduced inflammation in certain people. Our complex gut environment has a multitude of biological, chemical and immune system processes that mean it is individual as to how this will be of benefit to your health outcomes, but many study participants and customers are already taking PhycoDigest products as an essential part of their daily routine.
Now we are taking this further and looking at a whole spectrum of inflammatory processes to work out which ones, including psoriasis triggers, may be shifted by PhycoDigest® ingredients from seaweed. A reduction in inflammation processes may be a result of improved digestive tract process, direct interaction with immune cells and the gut lining, or shifts to beneficial microflora (the good bacteria in your gut).
The gut is the largest organ in the body, hosting all sorts of nutritional and immune processes over an area of 30m2. It is also the frontline of your immune system and thousands of signals and processes are continually approaching, connecting, being deflected and crossing into your blood stream and metabolism all the time. But it isn’t just an organ – it is an ecosystem, and you need to support it with the right nutrition. Seaweed hosts a plethora of molecules, including specific dietary fibres. The World Health Organisation has identified dietary fibre as typically deficient in the Western Diet, and it is hard to address this from the supermarket shelf with estimates that a typical westerner only gets 50% of the daily dietary fibre needs. In addition, the diversity of dietary fibre is important as different fibres do very different things. This is where seaweeds with the right soluble fibre signatures in the form of glycans, could deliver a potent dose of that boths fills the deficiency and diversity gap in the standard Western Diet.
In addition we have formulated SeaFibre-3 with GRAS certified, DHA rich algal Omega-3. The Wester diet is also typically deficient in the anti-inflammatory types of Omega-3, and so we have blended from the ocean what we believe many of us are missing. They are building blocks of good health and without them we will suffer.
What are PhycoDigest® extracts being tested for?
There are a number of mechanisms by which seaweed have been shown to reduce cholesterol in laboratory research, but few have tested it in human clinical trials. PhycoDigest® is one of those few. The reasons why our specific seaweed extracts might reduce the problematic cholesterol are numerous and complex and includes the regulation of bile and cholesterol in your liver through gut processes. This is ecological nutrition that we are only just beginning to understand – but let’s not let that stop us from doing the things that work.
Shifting GutDysbiosis which can help to
- Regulate and support metabolic processes that can prevent the onset of diabetes
- Support your liver and naturally enhance detoxification
- Maintain healthy blood sugar levels in healthy individuals
- Produce molecules that regulate the gut barrier to your blood stream
- Regulate immune system processes and reduce inflammatory processes
There are 2 mechanisms by which we believe PhycoDigest® may assist in joint health. The first is linked to the reduction of inflammatory processes, and the second is the unique molecular profile that includes Glucuronic acid. Glucuronic acid is a strategically important component of chondroitin (viscosity mucopolysaccharides that act as the flexible connecting matrix between collagen filaments in cartilage to form a polymeric system). To be able to synthesize enough chondroitin, the human body needs glucuronic acid and glucosamine. The lack of one of these components dramatically decreases the chondroitin synthesis.
There were links between the consumption of our seaweed extract, changes in gut flora and and chronic inflammation levels. Our second study is exploring this complex system to see what inflammatory pathways, what gut flora and what consequences for diseases might be, including a cohort of 50 people with skin disorders like psoriasis.
One of the inflammatory responses from the gut as well as many hormonal signals affect the brain. Gut instinct is not a fairy tale. There are more signals going from your gut to your brain than the reverse, and taking care of your gut is taking care of your head.
