Embracing the Ocean with Seaweed: Our Commitment at PhycoHealth

At PhycoHealth, our customers are not just consumers; you are an integral part of a global movement towards a more sustainable and healthier world. As a leader in the space that now has a Global Seaweed Manifesto, and a Seaweed Day on June 4 to boot, we are a part of the change that a sustainable seaweed industry will contribute to addressing several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Together, we are making significant strides in

  • improving health and wellbeing,
  • promoting responsible consumption and production,
  • tackling climate action, and
  • protecting life below water.

Celebrating Seaweed Day and World Oceans Day

The launch of the Seaweed Manifesto marks the inaugural International Seaweed Day on June 4, a significant date that falls just four days ahead of World Oceans Day on June 8. At PhycoHealth, we embrace both these important occasions with enthusiasm and commitment.

This year, to celebrate World Oceans Day, we are back at our local sustainable seafood banquet at Jervis Bay Brewery, and at Husky cinema for an Ocean film night. This event will feature our new laksa seaweed noodle courtesy of Kraken Sourdough and the chefs at Five Lilttle Pigs. We will be sharing insights on the importance of sustainable seaweed farming and its impact on marine conservation.

We encourage everyone to check out local activities for World Oceans Day in the UK, Australia, or explore a global calendar to participate in events near you. It's a fantastic opportunity to get involved and show support for ocean health and sustainability.

Health and Wellbeing

One of our primary focuses at PhycoHealth is on enhancing health and wellbeing through our range of seaweed-based foods and supplements. Our products are backed by rigorous clinical testing, demonstrating their benefits for gut health and inflammation regulation. Seaweed is a powerhouse of nutrients, addressing trace element and vitamin deficiencies that are common in modern diets. By incorporating seaweed into daily nutrition, our customers are taking proactive steps towards better health, supported by the sustainable sources from the ocean's bounty.

Responsible Consumption and Production

The current global food production system is marred by inefficiencies and nutrient losses. At PhycoHealth, we are committed to capturing and regenerating these lost nutrients through the innovative use of seaweed after decades of research in rengerative seaweed cultivation systems. Seaweed farming does not require arable land or freshwater, making it a highly sustainable crop. By integrating seaweed into our food products, we are promoting responsible consumption and encouraging a shift towards a more sustainable food production system. This not only benefits our customers but also contributes to a healthier planet.

Climate Action

Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time, and the food industry plays a significant role in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Our seaweed-based pasta has been shown to have at least 11% lower GHG emissions compared to traditional pasta. This is a testament to the environmental benefits of seaweed cultivation, which sequesters carbon and requires minimal resources. By choosing PhycoHealth products, our customers are actively participating in climate action and supporting a more sustainable future.

Life Below Water

The health of our oceans is crucial for the well-being of our planet. Seaweed farming can play a pivotal role in protecting coastal zones from nitrogen pollution, a major cause of ocean deoxygenation and harmful algal blooms. Today, our oceans are experiencing a 2% loss in oxygen, with some areas, like the Gulf of Mexico, approaching a 50% loss, creating ocean dead zones. Our innovative technology captures nitrogen before it reaches coastal ecosystems and transforms it into a nutritious, protein-rich food, abundant in gut-healthy fibre and essential minerals and vitamins. And it reoxygenates and de-acidifies the seawater too. Regeneration, protection and nutrition, with one seaweed, creating products while safeguarding the coastal ecosystem.

Join Us in the Seaweed Revolution

The Global Seaweed Manifesto highlights a multitude of potential benefits of the seaweed industry, and at PhycoHealth, we are proud to be a part of this transformative movement. Our customers are essential partners in this journey, and together, we are making meaningful contributions to several of the global sustainable development goals. By choosing PhycoHealth, you are not just making a healthier choice for yourself but also supporting a vision of a sustainable and resilient world.

Supporting Marine Conservation

To further celebrate and support our oceans, PhycoHealth will be donating 5% of all sales between June 4, Seaweed Day, and June 8, World Oceans Day, to the Australian Marine Conservation Society. Additionally, these donations will be matched, effectively doubling our investment in marine conservation efforts. This initiative underscores our commitment to protecting marine ecosystems and fostering a sustainable future.

Join us in embracing the seaweed revolution. Let’s make a difference together – for our health, our planet, and future generations.
