A Seaweed-Based Approach to Inflammation Support
We now know that many of the drivers of inflammation start in the gut. From the types of bacteria we host to the molecules circulating through our system, the gut plays a powerful role in either fuelling or cooling inflammation.
One exciting development from our clinical research has been the use of Phychondrin™, a seaweed extract that mimics the structure of chondroitin sulfate—a key component of joint cartilage and a well-known compound found in bone broth and animal connective tissues. Our peer-reviewed, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials showed that daily use of Phychondrin led to meaningful shifts in gut microbiota and markers of inflammation within just four weeks.
Unlike animal-derived chondroitin, Phychondrin™ is completely plant-based, extracted from our sustainably grown Ulva species 84, and gentle on the system. While we don’t make therapeutic claims, these results support the idea that targeted nutrients—especially from seaweed—can help the body support its own inflammatory balance from the inside out.
As with all good health, consistency matters. A healthy anti-inflammatory routine might start with your plate, your pantry—and perhaps even your seaweed.
A further source of inflammation can be triggered by low Omega-3 levels, and the source of Omega-3's like DHA and EPA are seaweeds and algae. This is why we paired Phychondrin™ with algal Omega-3 in our supplement range and created SeaFibre-3. If getting on top of a well managed inflammation system is your challenge, then we recommend SeaFibre-3. Otherwise check out which SeaFibre is for you in this article, or try out our Supplements Quiz.
