Beyond the direct Planetary Boundaries focus for our seaweed production and products, we partner with leading researchers to help them protect and restore large-scale kelp forests and marine ecosystems that are in decline. Climate shifts, pollution, and herbivore overgrazing have decimated kelp along many temperate coastlines—some areas have lost 80–95% of canopy cover over the past 50 years.
Our Collaborative Restoration Initiatives:
-
Operation Crayweed (Great Southern Reef) and the Global Kelp Alliance: Working alongside Professor Adriana Verges, we’re reseeding endangered Phyllospora comosa (crayweed) along the New South Wales coast. In pilot sites, juvenile crayweed transplants show 70% survival after 12 months—compared to 10% in unassisted areas—restoring critical fish nurseries.
Through these alliances, we’re not just farming seaweed—we’re rebuilding the “lungs of the sea.” By rewilding kelp forests and coastal habitats, we amplify biodiversity, shore up food webs, and fortify marine ecosystems against climate shocks. Our shared vision is a future where seaweed farms, kelp forests, and thriving coastal communities coexist in regenerative harmony.
