How to choose the moisturiser your skin actually wants

Why one skincare product can feel life-changing for one person — and not enough for another

We are incredibly grateful for the many reviews we receive from customers who say our skincare has made a meaningful difference to their skin comfort, confidence, and quality of life. We also hear something equally important: sometimes a person uses a product consistently and does not feel it is helping enough. Both kinds of feedback matter. Skin is not uniform, and no honest skincare conversation should pretend otherwise.

Skin is diverse — and menopause skin is especially complex

Skin changes during menopause are not simply about being “a bit dry.” As estrogen declines, skin commonly becomes drier, thinner, less resilient, and more prone to irritation, while collagen declines more rapidly after menopause. That means two women of the same age can have very different skin needs, and the same woman may need different support across seasons, stress levels, and stages of hormonal change.

Why some people notice improvements quickly

Sometimes the people who notice the most immediate difference are those whose skin was most dry, stressed, or barrier-impaired to begin with. When a moisturiser helps trap water in the skin and restore lipids, the change in comfort can feel obvious quite quickly. Skin may feel less tight, less irritated, and more supported within days, even if deeper structural changes are slower.

Why others need more time — or something different

Skin change does not always happen on the timeline we wish it would. Surface hydration can improve relatively quickly, but visible renewal and remodeling take longer. Skin renewal is often described as roughly a month in younger adults, but turnover slows with age, and deeper tissue remodeling can continue for many months and, in wound contexts, up to a year or more. That does not mean everyone should keep using a product forever in the hope it will suddenly transform their skin. It means expectations should be realistic, and that sometimes a different texture, oil profile, or combination of actives is a better match.

Hydration matters — but it is not the whole story

One of the most consistent truths in skincare is that hydration is foundational. Moisturisers help by trapping water in the skin and improving barrier comfort. That is important at every age. But hydration alone is not the full answer for every skin concern. Some skin needs richer occlusion. Some needs lighter barrier support. Some needs calming. Some needs time. And some concerns sit partly outside skincare altogether.

Great skin is not only topical

Skin is a visible organ, but it reflects the broader body. Sleep, stress, sun exposure, exercise, nutrition, inflammation, and gut health all influence skin quality. The gut–skin axis is now a well-established scientific concept, with growing evidence that gut microbial balance and systemic inflammation can affect skin physiology and inflammatory skin conditions. That does not mean every skin issue can be solved from within. It means topical skincare works best when it is part of a bigger picture.

Healthy skin, not a different age

Our goal in skincare should not be to promise that someone will stop looking their age. Healthy skin at every age is a more honest and more powerful aim. You can absolutely look your age and still have skin that feels hydrated, calm, strong, and alive. And equally, skin that is dry, inflamed, stressed, or depleted can make you look and feel more tired than you are. For us, that is the real conversation: not age erasure, but skin health.

What we take from feedback

When a customer says a product changed their life, we are grateful. When a customer says it did not help enough, we listen just as carefully. Both responses teach us something. Skin is diverse, and formulations must continue to evolve if they are to support a wider range of skin needs honestly and well. That is how we think skincare should work: with curiosity, humility, and real-world feedback.

Keen to be a part of a formulation alignment trial???

This is where you can get an opportunity to try a little bit extra - to see what skin formulation might suit you, as we open to just 50 more women to receive and try a series of 3 hidden formulations to see which one might suit your skin - while getting access to a free skin analysis and tracking the analysis changes to see if any of the formulations make a difference. We are only accepting the first 50 people who sign up with the form here.
There is no obligation by signing up, but we will send you the instructions to progress into the trial if you are keen to.
