Not too heavy - Not too light - Just Right!

How to choose the moisturiser for your skin type

One person swears by a rich cream and says their skin has never felt better. Another tries the same product and says, “It’s beautiful… but too heavy for me.”

Who is right?

Actually, both are.

Moisturiser is not one-size-fits-all. Skin is wonderfully variable — not just from person to person, but from season to season, age to age, and even from one part of your body to another. What feels deeply comforting and restorative for one face can feel too rich for another. And that does not mean the product is wrong. It usually just means the match is wrong.

Choosing a moisturiser is a little like choosing a blanket. Sometimes you want light and breathable. Sometimes you want warmth, cushioning, and deep comfort. The trick is knowing what your skin is asking for.

Why one moisturiser can feel perfect to one person and too much to another

Your skin has its own natural balance of oils, water, barrier strength, microbiome activity, and environmental stress. That balance shifts depending on things like:

  • age and hormonal stage
  • climate and season
  • sun and wind exposure
  • skin sensitivity
  • how damaged or resilient your barrier is
  • whether your skin runs oily, dry, or combination
  • what serums or cleansers you are using underneath

This is why a richer moisturiser like Nourish can be an absolute hero for dry, mature, depleted, wind-exposed or barrier-impaired skin — and yet feel like too much for someone with oilier, more active, humid-climate skin, or skin that prefers a lighter finish.

It is not about good or bad. It is about fit.

When a richer moisturiser is exactly what your skin needs

A richer moisturiser can be a gift when your skin is dry, tight, flaky, stressed, or simply not holding moisture well.

You may love a richer cream if your skin:

  • feels tight after cleansing
  • becomes flaky or rough easily
  • is exposed to cold, wind, salt, sun or indoor heating
  • is maturing and naturally producing less oil
  • is recovering from irritation or overuse of active ingredients
  • needs comfort at night or on certain areas like cheeks, neck or around the eyes

This is where a product like Nourish often shines. Richer creams do not just add softness. They help slow water loss from the skin and create a more protective environment for repair. For many people, that feels like relief.

When a lighter moisturiser is the better choice

Some skin types want hydration, but not weight.

You may prefer a lighter moisturiser if your skin:

  • gets shiny quickly
  • is prone to congestion or breakouts
  • lives in a humid climate
  • feels better with gel creams or lighter emulsions
  • is younger or naturally oil-balanced
  • dislikes the feeling of a richer finish on the skin

This kind of skin may still need excellent hydration — just delivered in a lighter, more breathable way.

That is an important distinction. Light does not mean less effective. It simply means the texture, oil phase, and finish may be better suited to what your skin can comfortably receive.

Heavy, light… or just right?

The goal is not to choose the richest moisturiser possible. Nor is it to choose the lightest. The goal is to choose the one that leaves your skin feeling calm, comfortable, supported, and balanced.

A good moisturiser should help your skin feel:

  • less tight
  • less reactive
  • more supple
  • more comfortable through the day or night
  • protected, but not smothered

If your skin feels greasy for hours, congested, itchy, or overwhelmed, it may be too much.

If your skin still feels tight, thirsty, or unprotected soon after applying, it may not be enough.

The sweet spot is that lovely feeling of “my skin feels better” — not shiny and overloaded, not dry and underdone.

The same person may need more than one moisturiser

This is where skincare gets more real and less rigid.

You may need:

  • a lighter moisturiser in summer
  • a richer cream in winter
  • something lighter for your T-zone
  • something richer for cheeks, neck, or under eyes
  • a lighter day cream and a richer night cream
  • one moisturiser when your skin is thriving, and another when your barrier is under stress

That is not being fussy. That is simply responding to skin as a living tissue.

A useful way to think about it

Ask yourself:

Is my skin asking for water, oil, or protection?

Sometimes skin is dehydrated and wants water-binding hydration.
Sometimes it is dry and wants more oils and emollients.
Sometimes it is irritated and wants barrier support and calm.
Sometimes it wants all three.

That is why the best skincare routines are not built around hype. They are built around listening.

So where does Nourish fit?

Nourish is for the skin that wants more comfort, more cushion, and more protection. It is especially suited to people who love that feeling of skin being wrapped, softened and deeply supported.

For some, it is the perfect everyday cream.

For others, it is better:

  • at night
  • in winter
  • after sun or wind exposure
  • during times of dryness or skin stress
  • on drier parts of the face or body

And for others still, it may simply be more than they need.

That is okay.

The point is not that everyone should love the same texture. The point is that skin is personal.

Your skin is allowed to be different

There is something refreshing about letting go of the idea that one product must suit everybody in exactly the same way.

Some people love rich nourishment.
Some love a lighter touch.
Some move between both.

The best moisturiser is not the one that sounds the most luxurious or the most active.
It is the one that your skin says yes to.

Not too heavy. Not too light. Just right.
